KNOTWEED AND INVASIVE SPECIES SPRAYING & INJECTING
KICK KNOTWEED are part of Boverton Nurseries, based in the Vale of Glamorgan, and are experts in invasive weed control. We have a team of experienced technicians qualified in the spraying and injection of invasive species including Japanese knotweed, giant hog weed and Himalayan balsam control as well as general spraying for weed for both commercial and domestic properties.
The removal of invasive plant species is the requirement of the landowner under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, Schedule 9. Most invasive species require a 3-5 year programme of removal. We can produce a yearly report for mortgage and insurance purposes are, of course, fully insured.
7 of our technicians are fully trained and qualified with PA1, PA6A and PA6AW certification
- spraying pesticides on and around land and water.
4 technicians also have PA6INJ certification for stem injection of Japanese knotweed and other invasive species.
KICK KNOTWEED - We Don't Cut Back!
Cutting back, and digging up the plant that you see above ground is not an effective method of dealing with it at all. It is also an offense to dig this up and remove it without a licence and there are very few landfill places that will legally accept it. A Knotweed plant can have roots that go up to four metres underground, so just “killing” the top bit will simply provide a temporary visible belief that you have solved your problem, but the underground root system (rhizome) is still alive and kicking, and will return in a short space of time. The only way to get rid of it permanently is to attack the root system, something that we have been experts in for almost 40 years.
KICK KNOTWEED - Herbicide Spraying
Timescale: 3 – 4 growing seasons
This is the most widely used solution for the eradication of Japanese Knotweed. We use a sprayer with herbicides applied to the surface of the leaf. This method is best used during the summer months when we have maximum plant growth, the more leaf growth we have the better and more effective the treatment. We can visit your site / property and spray the knotweed two to three times in the first two growing seasons.
KICK KNOTWEED - Metered-dose Injection Treatment
Timescale: 3 – 4 growing seasons
This method involves injecting the herbicide directly into the stem of the plant. It is primarily used outside of the main summer growing season when we have no leaf area to spray.
Stem injection is a system used when the area of knotweed growth is in smaller concentration around your property.
KICK KNOTWEED - Dig Out and Remove
Timescale: On-site work, depends on the size of the infested area, normally 1-2 weeks, followed by a monitoring plan.
This method involves excavating the Japanese Knotweed soil area and removing off-site to a specialist and dedicated landfill site. Primarily this is a method utilized for major development and building work, but it can be used on private property, although the cost is higher than the other two methods above.
This is a quick method to remove and eradicate the infected area and allow the use of the previously affected area without restrictions.
